Durbin

“Headwaters of the Greenbrier River”

The town of Durbin is one of 3 incorporated townships in Pocahontas County.  It is located on US Route 250, 26 miles west of Monterey, VA and 38 miles east of Elkins, WV.

Historically, Durbin was built to support the booming timber business at the beginning of the 20th century.  It was located at the terminus of the Western Maryland and C&O railroads which merged near the confluence of the East and West Forks of the Greenbrier River.    Today, the old Western Maryland line has been converted to a rail-trail which runs 25 miles north along the West Fork, to the town of Glady.    The southbound train still operates as a tourist train “The Durbin Rocket“.

Durbin is surrounded by the beautiful Monongahela Forest  which offers nearly unlimited recreational opportunities.   Activities such as fishing, hiking, hunting, horseback riding, canoeing, skiing, and mountain biking are all accessible from downtown.
